(Ear) Piercings Tag

Hey there!

I discovered this tag on Youtube and decided to do it on my blog :)
Note: I added some additional questions and answers which I thought was relevant.
Original tag was up till Question 5.

Questions:
1. How many piercings do you have and where? ( and when did you get them?)
- I have two regular lobe piercings on each ear.

(Photo was taken on December 2013)
- One cartilage piercing.

In answer to the last question, I got my first set of lobe piercings in Poh Kong Jewelry when I was 8. Both ears were shot  pierced at the same time, so you can imagine how terrifying it was for me.
Second set of lobe piercings was in 2012 at Tomei Jewelry store when I was 15. I got them at the same time Joy and Cheryl got theirs. It got infected really badly, and I had to let the piercings close up. 2-3 months later, when they fully healed, I re-pierced them again and had no problems with it since then. All done with a gun because when I was younger, I used to think that piercing needles were equivalent to sewing needles because of all the self-piercing stories I read about.

I've always liked cartilage piercings, and wanted to get two. But I got one instead. I wrote about the process in my Birthday post. This is my first piercing that was done with a needle, and I love it. Why did I get it done with a needle? I read multiple horror stories about cartilage piercings gone wrong with a gun, and realized that the needle is a safer option.

I will only ever do ear piercings because I'm too afraid to pierce my face and body. Also, my parents would faint and never wake up if I do. I thought of getting a nose piercing once, but I can't get used to the idea of having something in my nose.

2. Do you regret any of them?
- Nope. After my first set of piercings,  I thought about getting more for a long time and finally did it. I regretted my helix piercing for a while right after piercing it because it felt hot and uncomfortable, but I can barely feel it anymore now. (The maximum number of piercings I'd get is probably 8.)

3. What was your most painful piercing?
- I did a lot of research on piercings, and most sources state that the helix piercing is one of the most painful ones but surprisingly I hardly felt it at all during the piercing process. It hurt a little when the piercer was inserting the jewelry and felt sore for a while though. My lobe piercings were okay, it just gave me quite a shock when the gun was fired.

4. What's the best way to care for piercings?
By no means, am I an expert on this. It's based on the research I've made and my own personal experience.
- Clean it with a cotton bud soaked in saline solution or sea salt solution (make sure salt doesn't have iodine or it'll sting) daily while piercings are healing. Don't ever use antiseptic cream/sanitizer because it will irritate your piercing. You want your piercing to heal, but not for it to close up.
- Try not to twist it because it will bring in the bacteria and tear the fistula thus making your piercing take longer to heal. A lot of piercers in jewelry shop will recommend this, but professional piercers say that this is not a good idea.
- Don't touch your piercings or play with it. If you have to touch it, make sure you wash your hands with antibacterial soap.
- Keep your hair away from your piercing.
- Don't go swimming. In the sea or a swimming pool. It can cause an infection if your piercing reacts to the chlorine or impurities in the water and the water is usually not clean.
- Some people say it's better not to eat seafood, eggs, etc. But honestly, I don't know if that's true.

I found this blog really helpful: http://helpwithmypiercing.blogspot.com/

5. Would you get another piercing and if so, where?
- I might, in a few years.. Either a third set of lobe piercings or a second cartilage piercing right below the first one.

6. Where can I pierce my ears in Malaysia?
Option 1: With a piercing gun
Places: In jewelry shops like Poh Kong or Tomei. (Costs around RM15-30)
I wouldn't recommend it, based on my personal experience and research.

Option 2: With a piercing needle.
Places: In tattoo parlours in Sungei Wang mall, Dragonfly Tattoo in Midvalley (RM 115), Attic's Jewelry and Piercing in Sunway Pyramid (RM85) . There's a lot of tattoo shops in KL who pierce with needles also.

7. Favorite earrings collection.
Studs like these.
Cross, skull, bird (shown in the first pic), black and white studs.

8. What do my piercings represent?
- My first lobe piercings was done when I was really young and to be honest, it doesn't really mean anything besides being a reminder of my childhood and how much I loved the earrings my Mum got me (I lost one of the earrings, when our house got robbed. I still have the other in a box somewhere). "We were young and wild and free."

- Second lobe piercings would represent those days when my closest friends and I were insane and crazy and loud. I remember how scared I was and holding someone's hand really tightly. (Also remembered how relieved I was when it was over. Then it got infected and I had to repierce it.) I'm pretty sure the holes are crooked because it's hard to use any other earring besides studs. "When everything was exciting and life was an adventure"

- Cartilage piercing was done in the memory of my 18th birthday and coming of age. It also reminds me of how life changes over the years and why I shouldn't be afraid to try new things.

9. Piercing gun or piercing needle?
- I would recommend a piercing needle. There's a lot of contradictory answers on this, but I think those who advocate piercing needles makes more sense to me with their explanations on why it's better and why they're against using a gun.

Also, based on my own experience, while a piercing done by a gun can certainly heal, it's more prone to causing infections and the jewelry they use might cause allergic reaction because of high nickel content which a majority of people are allergic to.

I hear that piercing guns can shatter the cartilage, cause blunt force trauma and it's not sterile. The upside is that it's cheaper and you can get them anywhere. Piercing needles are expensive, slightly more painful when you pierce with it, and it's not easy to find a place which uses it. But on the upside, it's safer, more sterile and sharper which means it will not cause trauma to the ear.

On a side note, piercing guns were designed to be used on earlobes (if at all), not anywhere else. Nose, cartilage, rook, tragus, belly..Nope. Just don't.

(Attic's Jewelry and Piercing sent this to me)

Ultimately, it's your personal choice. Everyone has different opinions and experiences :)
Do your own research on the subject and decide on your own.

The Day I Turned Eighteen

Hey there!

I'm eighteen today! #whichmeansfreedominsomanyways

I'm SO EXCITED because I've done something I've waited to do since last year.
But I can't tell you why just yet, because my parents do not approve of it.

Some people might find it weird but I don't really celebrate my birthday. I haven't done it for years, in fact. What I mean by that is throwing a huge celebration. inviting all my friends and family, eating cake, the awkward moment when everyone sings "Happy Birthday to youuuu!"...yeah, I don't do that.
One of the most memorable birthdays I've had to date looked a little like this:

Reading with a cup of Milo on hand, while listening to music.

I got a midnight birthday call and messages from friends who didn't realize that I was already almost asleep and I thought it was really funny and sweet of them :P Some of my closer friends sent Whatsapp/Snapchat/Facebook messages and called me to say Happy Birthday too. I love you guys. *wipes tears from eyes* HAHA. I only had about 4 hours of sleep. Woke up at 6.30 am, listened to music, cuddled some cats before getting ready to go to the train station.

My eighteenth birthday 'celebration' was just hanging out with Esther and Aijean in Sunway Pyramid and visiting The One Academy. It had numerous funny/terrifying/awesome moments.

Starting from when we walked from the train station to Sunway Pyramid. Almost got hit by some cars at one point because the road construction blocked us from the driver's sight. Almost fell when walking down some really steep stairs of the pedestrian bridge.

Ate Pan Mee in Asian Avenue for an early lunch.

Got hungry again later, and went to have some chocolate sundae crepe to share.

Esther loves teddy bears.

In Forever 21.

I went to Attic's Jewelry and Piercing to get my cartilage/helix pierced.
Researched on cartilage piercings for months, and decided to do it with a piercing needle instead of a piercing gun because it's a better option. Will elaborate more in my next post. I know it's really weird to hear because it's more common to get a piercing with a gun, but it's actually not the best option. I won't encourage someone to use a piercing gun, but if they want to, it's their choice, haha.
The girl at the counter showed me some straight barbells to choose but I asked to see the curved barbells and captive bead rings, because I read that it's better for the healing process.

The piercing was done in a private, enclosed area and the piercer said that no one else can enter.
So I went alone. *Cue dramatic music* I was terrified. The piercer asked me a few questions (to distract me) while preparing the equipment. She took a marker and marked a spot on my ear. Then she gave me a mirror and asked if the position is okay. I wanted it to be higher, so she marked it again.

She sprayed something on my ears to numb it, and told me to breathe in while she pushed the needle in. After a few moments, she inserted the earring in. The most uncomfortable part was when she screwed on the end of the earring. I said thank you and went out. Esther/Aijean looked at me and said "Eh. Wow, you were so quiet. I thought you fainted already." I thought that was really funny but I couldn't laugh because I was still in shock. I was worried I would scream, but I didn't.

This is what it looks like :)

The earring is bigger than I expected, but now there's room for the piercing to heal.
I'm relieved that I finally got it done, but a small part of me regrets it a little because I have to be careful not to do certain things, like sleep on the side the piercing is on, keep my hair away from it and forgetting to clean it regularly.

I was spaced out for almost an hour and wasn't very excited while we were shopping. (More like a walking zombie) I was a lot better when we went to The One Academy to see their gallery, watch some presentations and take a tour.

Some cards I collected because it looks so attractive.

This is probably my favorite.

Isn't this adorable?

Sneakers, sneakers, boots.

Reflection :3

On the phone.

I learned a lot about the courses I was interested in, but I honestly don't know. I think I'm more inclined towards studying visual communication design in one particular university. Some parts of the conversation we had with one of the counsellors was funny.

Discussing branding of types of food, drink, etc.
2nd TOA counsellor: I mean, when do you hear people ask the Mamak guy for instant noodles? They usually say Maggi Mee, am I right? When do people use the word "instant noodles" ?

Me: *Tries really hard not to laugh* W-When someone asks "What is Maggi Mee?"

Our maths? not good.
2nd TOA counsellor: Then the total pay will be..25 times 50. What is the total? Tell me.

Esther, Aijean, Me: UMMMMMM.....*at the same time*

Aijean: Is it RM 1000 like that?

TOA counsellor: Wah, so long didn't go school, until Maths also don't know already.

We three people: Oucchhh.

Saw the labs, rooms, chill rooms.. and wow, so many computers! It was a great experience. (At least now I know what college is like)

Random question we get a lot.
Cotton On cashier ask "Are you two sisters?" to Aijean while pointing at me. Aijean was like "Nope. We get that question a lot." He said "Ohh, so best friends." Everyone said "Yup. You can say that. HAHA"

(I don't know why I'm not looking at the camera)

Went to play archery! :)

(Aijean's face, hehe)

And bowling.

It was fun. And the bowling alley was REALLY cold. I loved it.

Things *EHEM* doesn't want you to know about.
We went to a certain coffee shop and wanted to ask one of the barista's for his phone number (kidding around about it and even had a bet on it) but didn't get a chance to. We went home after that.

I'm really tired. And sleepy.

One thing I hate about getting older is that I don't get to see some of my friends as often anymore. Sigh. I'm still happy I survived SPM though. HAHA.

Till next time! :)

Music Tag & The Best Asks Ever Tag

When Things Begin Again

Hey there! :)

Short Life Update:
New bag, which I liked because it looks like an American flag envelope :)

Spotted this at Ikea during Christmas season and I love it! GINGERBREAD house and tree.

Had this sausage roll at Pacific Coffee Company :)
The chocolate goodness is Esther's.

Andrew and I had the same drink, but his was hot and mine was cold.
I'm pretty sure it's called Chocolate Paradise?
And this tastes amazing. I loved it :3

The place was pretty dim so it was hard to get a good shot.
But the atmosphere was great.
We were shopping in Sunway Pyramid, and got really tired and hungry.
But SALES, SALES everywhere *__*

Christmas present from Andrew. It's a quote :D
He noticed me staring at it and sneakily got one for me and Esther.
Thanks man! :)

Hoping to go to Sunway Lagoon again one day :)

With Esther and Andrew at F2F (Face To Face) after hanging out in Aeon and before going to Klang Parade.

This is what I ate :)

There was a long line outside the fitting room.

Went to Midvalley with Aijean.
We both wore floral skirts and long sleeved tops without planning to :3
She texted me on Saturday afternoon and asked if I wanted to go to Sunway, but we ended up going to Midvalley by train.
It was fun, but pretty tiring because of all the rushing and wondering if we took the right train or not. HAHA.

I like taking the train more than going by car.
1. No traffic jam (just waiting for the train and maybe taking the wrong one by accident)
2. I don't get headaches or get dizzy like I do on long car rides
3. It feels more like a fun adventure.
